Preview  Spyro: Season of Ice
- By Michael Loewer

Universal Interactive Studios, while at E3, unveiled a list of their upcoming, next-generation titles for 2001. Unfortunately, most of the games listed were for the PS2. However, one lone Game Boy Advance game made the cut, and it goes by the name of Spyro: Season of Ice.

As stated by Jim Wilson, the President of Universal Interactive Studios:

“The broad demographic of the Spyro franchise fits perfectly with the Game Boy Advance audience. Moving to a next-generation platform, players will still experience the signature gameplay of the Spyro the Dragon series, including mini-games, speedways and bonus levels.”

Here's the story:

Spyro, while attempting to relax during a much needed vacation in Dragon Shores, receives notice that a careless Rhynoc wizard has captured Zoe and frozen all the fairies throughout the Fairy Realms. This is obviously most unfortunate, so Zoe uses her last bit of magic to send a magic balloon to Spyro to summon his help. Spyro, now determined to save Zoe and as many of the frozen fairies as possible, teams up with friends Hunter and Sparx in a race against the clock.

Gamers will probably recognize the traditional 3D Spyro worlds and his classic effects and abilities. Universal Interactive Studios has also included 30 new levels, including Lava Prarie, Hummingbird Village, Honey Marsh, Roman Holiday, Star Park, and Age Speedway.

Developed by Digital Eclipse, Spyro: Season of Ice is designed for players of all ages and skill levels. Look for it in stores nationwide beginning in November, 2001.

As always, more on Spyro: Season of Ice as it develops, and be sure to check out the screenshots at right.
