Preview  Crash [Bandicoot] GBA
- By Andrew Weatherton

Ahhh, Crash Bandicoot, the extremely popular videogame character who had, at one time, become Sony's mascot. The exciting thing about Crash is that his games have always been extremely fun and garner mass-market appeal. Having the well-known Bandicoot come to the GBA does several things. For one, it puts an end to Crash’s association as Sony’s mascot. Having Crash go multi-platform leaves the PlayStation 2 to go hunting for a new, proprietary mascot for consumers to associate their system with. In addition to this, it serves as a prophecy to the series’ inevitable appearance on Nintendo’s GameCube.

Crash swims on to the portable scene

Though we have no solid information on the type of gameplay featured in Crash’s first outing on a Nintendo system, our five precious screen shots tell us all we need to know for the time being. Crash GBA is going to be an all-new side-scrolling rendition of the popular PlayStation titles. No evidence so far as to whether or not the development team is planning to incorporate any of the GBA’s pseudo-3D (mode-7) effects. Crash Team Racing type levels are possible on the GBA, it’s doubtful we’ll see any though.

Crash into me, yeah…

If the PlayStation titles are any indication, Crash GBA is going to be a high quality GBA title with excellent graphics and fun gameplay. Afterall, the Crash Bandicoot games were the PlayStation’s best selling (world-wide) series of game; they were my favorite games for the system as well.
