Preview  Mega Man Xtreme 2
- By Francis Bonnet

logo

Mega Man Xtreme 2 takes place in the world of Mega Man X as humans and reploids live together in harmony (but not for long). Mega Man X has always been my favorite of all of Capcom’s 25 billion Mega Man incarnations, so, naturally, I get very excited when I hear that a new game in the series is coming out. Mega Man Xtreme 2 should be pretty much more of the same classic shooting, jumping, and weapon stealing that we’ve come to expect from Capcom’s long-lived series. Expect to see bosses from the original Super NES Mega Man X and Mega Man X2 make an appearance as well as having Zero as a playable character.

As for the story, it turns out that X and Zero are having more Maverick problems (big surprise there). After an accident in a Reploid factory, X finds that a Maverick somehow obtained a DNA Soul chip allowing him to steal the DNA of other Reploids and reuse them. He then goes on to recreate the “souls” of old Mavericks that X and Zero have previously destroyed (he decides that the bosses from Mega Man X and X2 will do nicely) and sends them out to cause death, destruction, and mayhem. So, care to guess what X and Zero get to do? That’s right!! They get to fight through 8 different stages collecting boss weapons and using them against other bosses!

By now, everyone pretty much knows what to expect from a Mega Man game and with MMXtreme2 we expect few surprises. Long-time Mega Man fans will likely flock to it, and newbies will probably casually look it over. Hopefully Capcom will up the color pallet since the original Mega Man Xtreme’s color was rather limited. If all goes according to plan, Capcom should have this one out for the Gameboy Color in September.
