Preview  Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex
- By Michael Loewer

Still fresh in my mind as exclusively a Sony property, Crash Bandicoot's upcoming GameCube title will be his debut on the console.

Crash's arch-enemy, Neo-Cortex, has been defeated one too many times and has developed a new super weapon to destroy his nemesis once and for all. This powerful new destructive force is none other than Crunch, a genetically engineered super-creature designed solely to eliminate Bandicoot.

For the time being, Cortex and his own master, Uka Uka, lack a power source for Crunch. To remedy this problem, Uka Uka has called upon the powers of the slumbering "Elementals," four ancient masks which harness the powers of earth, fire, water, and air. (Editor's note: Watch The Fifth Element, starring Bruce Willis) If Crunch wears these masks, then he obviously ends up gaining the power of the elements. Crash is somewhat upset by all this, and feels the need to stop Neo-Cortex yet again.

Included:

  • Extremely fast load times
  • Over 30 varied levels
  • Real-time light and shadows
  • Pilot a hang-glider, 4x4, and Crash-Mech
  • Coco is a fully playable character for the first time ever
  • GCN-GBA Link compatible; the GCN game will unlock multiple secret features in the upcoming GBA sequel

Expected release is August, 2002, with a price of $49.99.
