Preview Mega Man Battle Network 2
- By Francis Bonnet
This year Mega Man is celebrating his 15th anniversary, and what better way to start it off than with a sequel to Capcom’s popular Battle Network series, which takes the Blue Bomber into very different territory than his traditional side-scrolling gameplay. Mega Man Battle Network 2, like its predecessor, is an action RPG of sorts in which you explore towns, talk to citizens, and collecting items to increase your level. However, the actual battles are action-based, involving quick reflexes just like the Mega Man games of the past. Battles take place on a checker board-like arena in which you must use menu-driven attacks as well as real-time attacks while trying to avoid enemy fire. By combining battle chips you can greatly increase your chances of a successful victory, as well as seeing some pretty cool attacks.
Mega Man Battle Network 2 continues where the first one left off in which you play as Lan, a boy who specializes in battling cyber criminals on the web using his virtual buddy, MegaMan.EXE. In the real world Lan must find locations in which he can “jack in” to the virtual world thus letting Mega Man.EXE take over. Mega Man’s job is to obtain battle chips, which allow him to increase his weapon inventory, replenish lost health, and escape from danger.
Mega Man Battle Network 2 boasts a two-player option in which you can connect two Gameboy Advances and battle each other, similar to the way you battle in Nintendo’s Pokemon games. Expect Battle Network 2 to be released sometime this June.
