Preview Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Dual Preview
- By Michael Loewer
I was forwarded a news release from Enix today detailing the release of the new Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 titles. Notice that I used the plural form, as there are in fact two of them. They're so similar, in fact, that the release of both games is being carried out simultaneously, not unlike Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue. They shall be called:
1.) DW Monsters 2: Cobi's Journey
2.) DW Monsters 2: Tara's Adventure
The box art given to us by Enix is absolutely massive--we're talking over one meg per picture. Now, I could take the time to shrink them down and cut the file size, but that seems almost blasphemous since they're such high-quality. So here are the links, check them out at your own risk if you're on a slow connection:
Cobi's Journey Box ::::: Tara's Adventure Box
Oh well, you talked me into it. Here are a few smaller ones (but still bigger than the ones on the right) that might be more dial-up friendly:
Small Cobi Box ::::: Small Tara Box
Keep in mind that while the games are technically different, because of their general similarities this article will serve as a "dual preview" until we receive more information concerning the exact differences between the two adventures.
In this version, Cobi and Tara are brother and sister who move with their family of monster farmers to the island of GreatLog. Soon after arriving, the siblings receive a rude welcome from GreatLog's own Prince Kameha and his monster, the elemental Warubou. The siblings' adventure begins when the mischievous Kameha and Warubou begin to cause GreatLog to start sinking into the ocean. To save the island from destruction, Cobi and Tara must train a personal army of Dragon Warrior Monsters as they seek out the fabled Magic Keys.
Obviously, we know that both titles have different main characters (Cobi and Tara). Plus, each sibling has different skills and different areas of the island to explore, along with secrets. Linking together the two games using the Link Cable can unlock additional secrets, monsters, and entirely new worlds.
Included features:
Sequel to the hit game Dragon Warrior Monsters which sold over two million units worldwide
Tame, raise and breed over 300 different types of monsters from 11 monster families including new monsters from Dragon Warrior VII
There are different encounter rates for each monster for each game
Magic Keys unlock new worlds and new scenarios to explore
Linking two Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 games together allows you to: trade or giveaway monsters you have found, battle your friends' monsters, join up with your friends' to battle AI monsters, and trade keys to unlock previously unavailable worlds
No price is set as of yet, but both titles are set to ship in Fall 2001. A great deal of thanks goes out to Enix from me, for their incredible support of the Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and the upcoming Nintendo GameCube. Here's to the entire Dragon Warrior series and the upcoming Nintendo dominance!
