Preview Towers II: Plight of the Stargazer
- By Michael Loewer
Welcome to the NGenres.com preview for Towers II: Plight of the Stargazer, developed by Telegames. We're the FIRST site anywhere to preview it, and we're damned happy about that, so you should be too.
Right, anyways...
Towers II is played in a pretty incredible format--it's a 3D RPG, crammed into the Game Boy Color. The game tells the continuing saga of a band of adventurers shipwrecked on the island of Lamini. Gamers, however, begin the adventure several months after the initial island landing. After a while, the crew realizes that there is something very strange happening in Lamini. There seems to be absolutely no contact with the outside world, and the locals appear to be abnormally focused only on current island affairs.
During this short investigative period, repairs have been made to the ship, and the crew is more than ready to leave the island. Unexpectedly, however, the sheriff of Lamini requests a meeting with the crew. Lord Daggan, one the island's highest-ranked council members, appears to have suddenly gone insane. The council's elite guards and mages are sent to go stop Daggan, but no one sent to confront him has been heard from since. Luckily, it is discovered that a small band of theives was in fact able to enter and escape from Daggan's tower. Several of the theives are interrogated, and the confessions given are unbelievable. They tell of large eyes with wings, men made out of steel, and even living fire.
Now, it is time for the shipwrecked adventurers to enter Daggan's tower and unravel the mystery.
Personally, I'd get the hell out of there, but that's just me.

This actually looks very similar to an old Sega CD game a friend of mine had, and I think it's pretty incredible that Telegames was able to create a 3D RPG for the GBC--especially with the digital conversations and full motion video. Come to think of it, the included Co-op mode looks pretty cool too.
The release "date" is currently set for the 4th Quarter 2001, so be looking for our full review around that time.
