Preview The Jurassic Park III Trilogy
- By Michael Loewer
To coincide with the release of the movie Jurassic Park III, Konami of America is releasing the first of its three Jurassic Park III titles this month, called DNA Factor. The two remaining games, Park Builder and Primal Fear, will be released later this year.
Later on, NGenres.com will bring you separate previews and reviews for each of these three titles, but for now, since information is relatively limited, we're going over the entire trilogy at once.
By the way, all of the titles are expected to sell for an estimated $39.99 a piece--just so you know.
Jurassic Park III: DNA Factor
DNA Factor attempts to recreate on the Game Boy Advance the world of Jurassic Park III. The adventure takes place across 12 levels spanning jungles, mountains, and laboratories. Ten species of dinosaurs are also included, from Stegosaurs to Ankylosaurs to Pterodactyls.
Gameplay consists of two modes. The first is a side-scroller, in which you search Isla Sorna for missing DNA capsules while avoiding being eaten. Then, in the puzzle/shooter mode, you use the aforementioned DNA capsules to complete DNA strands that unlock new creatures.
Release: July 2001
Jurassic Park III: Park Builder
You could probably refer to this as "Sim-Jurassic Park", because basically you're asked to build your own dinosaur theme park from scratch. In fact, this title is actually recognized as the first "Sim"-type game ever for the Game Boy Advance.
Included are thousands of unique dinosaur DNA strands that allow players to create over 100 unique dinosaur species to display in their park. Also, to help build players' glorified zoos even faster, dino DNA can be traded and shared using the GBA link cable.
Release: September 2001
Jurassic Park III: Primal Fear
In this final adventure, gamers are lost on an island inhabited by dinosaurs (duh, presumably Isla Sorna), and as usual, must find weapons and equipment to save themselves from being a dinosaur's next meal.
The graphics on this title look excellent, as the entire adventure is rendered in 3D and gameplay takes place with full 360 degree movement and range of motion.
You'll have over 25 items at your disposal to complete your quest, such as grappling hooks, dynamite, hatchets, and guns. Plus, many of the classic dinos make an appearance, from the Compys to Tyrannosaurus Rex--and there's even a new dino, called a Spinosaurus.
Release: October 2001
Individual previews and reviews are on their way, as more information becomes available.
Be sure to check the screenshots at right!
