News   World's First Mid-Air Projector A Reality!
- Posted By Lander Clinton, 08.20.2005

The nice people at IO2 Technology have crafted a new display which casts whatever image you want into empty air, with no screen. The projector uses lasers and does not create holograms, rather it modifies the air above the projector.

The image projected is only 2D, however at a distance of a few feet it appears to be three-dimensional.

The system is completely backwards compatible with existing output devices, meaning you could plug any of your Nintendo consoles into it and see your favorite game broadcast into the air. Same with a DVD player. No idea if it plays sound or if you would need to plug the sound into a speaker.

The screen is also a "touch" screen, meaning if you put your finger through the image you can interact with it. Of course, the software you're running must know this. It's interesting that touch screens have recently branched into two ideas, a touch screen that touches you back and a touch screen that you can't touch at all. The one that touches you back vibrates where you press it to give the impression of touching more than just a screen.

Anyway, check out this amazing new technology here:
