News   Hands-On With Twilight Princess

Well, after a very long line, I got in to play Zelda- it was so worth it.

There were four levels to play of which I played three and watched the fourth. The first one I tried was a boss fight on horse back. I watched the person ahead of me have trouble with this, but I didn't find it too hard. Just lock on to the boss and keep slapping Epona to get up to him and slice him. The ride was fast and smooth, but they should put more points of interest on that field. I'd hate to traverse it without a horse.

The next level I played was the village you start out in, Taoru. There were several chances for me to help the locals with their problems, but not caring about them, I just ran around and tried to see as much as possible. One guy wanted me to herd his goats into their stable using the horse. This was pretty hard, so? Quit! Next some lady dropped a basket in a river and I swam in to get it but then dropped it near a windmill rudder. I didn't feel like getting it again, so? Quit!

Then some little girl was crying and she pointed at some other kids who were probably being mean to her. She asked for my help and I said no. Oh, I also injured Epona's leg while I was riding and they had to take her to her date with a bullet (it may have been a healing pond to fix her leg).

The third demo I tried was a dungeon. I liked what I saw. Link's boomerang can once again lock on to objects and enemies, but now it also travels with a whirlwind around it. This is good for confusing some enemies and also clearing out piles of leaves that hide treasures.

You can also use the boomerang to pick up one thing and take it somewhere else before it comes back to you. In the fourth level, a boss fight, Link would throw the boomerang at a bomb flower and then have it take it to the boss to explode.

In the dungeon I was trying to help some monkeys that were monkey-napped, much like the exact same thing in Majora's Mask and the similar Goron thing in Ocarina. They didn't just run away when I saved them though, they'd help me get farther in the dungeon. When I'd reach a bridge that was out, a monkey would jump onto the rope that still went across the chasm and then catch and throw me to the other side when I'd jump. These monkeys obviously meant it when they said they'd run away and join the circus.

That's all for Zelda for now. In the trailer we see a mysterious character who rides Link when he turns into a wolf. We're meant to think it's Zelda, but it would be so cool if it were Ganon, and you find out you were helping Ganon the whole time.
