News   Super Mario Bros. Now On DVD
- Posted By Francis Bonnet, 06.28.2003

Yes, it's finally out! The Super Mario Bros. Movie has finally been released on DVD! Those of you who have been waiting for this joyous day may now race out to your local video store and buy multiple copies for yourself and your friends. Seriously though, this movie isn't worth more than 10 bucks... luckily I got mine for less.

Super Mario Bros. The Movie was released in theatres way back in 1993. Originally, this movie was planned for a '91 release and Danny DeVito was even rumored to be playing the part of Mario, but numerous delays and script re-writes did away with that. Instead, we have the less-famous Bob Hoskins playing Mario and John Leguizamo playing his annoying brother Luigi. Hmm... in the video game Mario wasn't bald and Luigi had a moustache. Not very true to their characters if you ask me. Still, this movie could have had worse casting... oh wait... we have Dennis Hopper playing King Koopa.

So you want to know the the basic plot of Super Mario Bros. The Movie? Okay, well the original meteor that destroyed the dinosaurs millions of years ago actually created a parallel world known as Dinohatten where dinosaurs still exist only now they've evolved into human-like beings. Princess Daisy is kidnapped and brought to Dinohatten so that King Koopa can use her piece of the original meteor to take over the human world. Yeah... we have Academy Award-winning material here. If you're going to watch this movie, get a lot of friends... you'll have a great time making fun of it.

Being that this is a DVD, you'd expect it to have a few more special features than just language selection and the original theatrical trailer, right? Where are the deleted scenes, outtakes and director's commentary? Well, this movie is one big deleted scene, there are no outtakes because making the whole movie was a mistake, and the director was too embarrassed to admit that he directed it. Seriously, this movie is really bad... but it's the kind of bad that you want to see because it's so bad that it makes you laugh.

If you're interested in adding this movie to your collection, you can easily find it for under 10 bucks on the net. I bought mine from deepdiscountdvd.com for only 6 bucks and change. Okay, I'm done wasting everyone's time now. Enjoy this box art...
