Videogame Violence Now Cause Of Everything That Goes Bad

A story in this week's People Magazine details the unfortunate death of 21-year-old Brandon Vedas, who over-dosed on drugs when his friends egged him on by instant messaging.
Instead of focusing on peer pressure or drug problems in Ameria, People decided to focus on the fact that Vedas was using a computer. The article includes shots from his webcam and a picture of his mother looking sad next to his computer. Only later in the article does it mention Vedas' history of drug abuse, but not until after the following quote by "Internet scholar" John Perry Barlow:
Young people by nature like to play around with the edge of death. What makes this different is that the edge was blunted by being virtual. It must have been like a video game.
Are people still scape-goating videogames to hide their inadequate knowledge, both about games and the given problem? According to Videogame scholar Lander Clinton, the answer is "yes."
