News   Japanese Holiday Hardware Sales
- Posted By Francis Bonnet, 01.10.2003

In another sales report from Reuters, it seems that our favorite company is still having problems overseas.

Between the dates of October 28 and Janaury 5, Gamecube sales in Japan were down 54.9% when compared to hardware sales at the same time last year. Unfortunately the release of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker didn't push as much hardware as Nintendo expected. Hardware sales of Gamecube totaled 409,747.

Gameboy Advance sales, however, were up 38.9% with units sold totaling 1.81 million. Obviously Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, both with combined sales of over 3 million units, helped to push more GBA hardware into the hands of Pokemon-hungry Japanese gamers.

On an interesting side note, PS2 sales were also down but that's not really saying much. It's like saying that underwear sales are down this year when compared to last. When everbody's got it, it just gets to the point where you don't need to buy it anymore.
