News   Ocarina Joins Long Line Of Zelda Remakes
- Posted By Lander Clinton, 12.18.2002

After seconds of speculation, gamers everywhere knew Nintendo would bring its amazing Zelda pre-order campaign to America, and weeks later Captain N said "Make it so."

Anyone who orders "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" on Feb. 16, 2003, will receive for free a disc with "Ocarina of Time," "Ocarina of Time: Master Quest," and previews of upcoming GameCube games on the spot.

"Ocarina" will be the same as the N64 version but in a higher resolution. "Master Quest" is the slightly modified version of Ocarina originally conceived for the 64DD. It should be noted that Ocarina and "Super Mario 64 2" were both supposed to be 64DD exclusives, but the add-on wanted to "make it on my own." You'll get to California some day, 64DD!

Anyway, at some point I should probably write a story that fits the headline. Ocarina is not the first Zelda game to be updated, but it's the first one available for free.

The original "Legend of Zelda" was rereleased in Japan for the Super Famicom with updated graphics. "Link's Awakening" on Game Boy was rereleased as "Link's Awakening: DX" on the Game Boy Color, with, um, color, and a new dungeon. "A Link to the Past" was rereleased this month on Game Boy Advance with a multi-player quest, "The Four Swords."

Ocarina is getting rereleased for GameCube with higher resolution graphics and an altered semi-sequel (note: not "Majora's Mask"). Finally, "Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link" is being rereleased as "The Wind Waker" next March. Whoops, I should have put a spoiler warning! Sorry!
