Nintendo has announced a conference for this Tuesday where they are set to unveil a new GameCube peripheral. The conference is set to start at 4:30 PM in Japan, which translates to 1:30 AM Central Standard Time.
"Nintendo Co Ltd 7974.OS , the Japanese videogame hardware and software maker, said on Monday it would make an announcement on peripherals for its GameCube home videogame console at 4:30 p.m. (0730 GMT) on Tuesday.
A Nintendo spokesman declined to give further details, other than that a spokesman would hold the briefing.
Nintendo, known for its hit "Mario" and "Pokemon" game characters, launched adaptors in September for its GameCube console, allowing users to play the online game "Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II", made by Sega Corp 7964.T .
In October, the Kyoto-based company slashed its estimate for first-half recurring profit -- pretax and excluding extraordinary items -- by 77 percent due to a loss on its hefty foreign-currency assets.
It also trimmed its shipment target for the GameCube console in this business year to 10 million units from 12 million.
To boost slack GameCube sales in Japan ahead of the Christmas shopping season, Nintendo is set to release a silver-coloured GameCube console on Dec 1, followed by a wireless controller for the GameCube on Dec 5.
Nintendo is set to announce first-half earnings on Thursday.
Shares in Nintendo closed down 2.01 percent at 11,200 yen, compared with the benchmark Nikkei average's fall of 1.85 percent."
Also, for those of you thinking this is the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT that's supposed to revoltuionize the industry, you're going to have wait a tad longer, as that is not expected until early- to mid-December.
Check back here at 1:35 AM for all the nitty, gritty details on Nintendo's new, mysterious add-on. Let's just hope it's not as "revolutionary and innovative" as the 64DD.
