News   Capcom's 5 New Gamecube Titles Announced
- Posted By Francis Bonnet, 11.14.2002

Capcom's press conference in Japan today revealed 5 new exclusive Gamecube games. Screen shots are to the right, info is in the below paragraphs. All release dates are tentative for Japan as no U.S. release dates have yet been announced. Enjoy!

Resident Evil 4:
Tentative Release Date: Winter 2003

You all knew it was coming, but now you can see the first screen shots of the latest in the Resident Evil series. According to Capcom, RE4 takes place within the Umbrella Corporation itself and stars RE2's Leon Kennedy. This game promises to take the RE series into a new direction - probably a new control scheme and such. RE4 is directed by Hiroshi Shibata who worked on Capcom's 2D arcade fighting games in the early 90's and more recently on Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

Viewtiful Joe:
Tentative Release Date: Spring 2003

From the director of the PS2's Devil May Cry series, Hideki Kamiya, comes Viewtiful Joe, which he describes as a "beautiful, powerful side-scroller." The game stars a super hero (who suspiciously looks like Proto Man from the Mega Man series) who must not only fight crime, but do so beautifully... whatever that means. This following quote from Kamiya himself may be able to clarify some questions regarding this "interesting" title:

"Let me give you a brief explanation of this game so you get a better feel for it. For example, if you active the 'SLOW' feature to bash the heck out of the enemy, the enemy will go flying all the way across the screen. Then if you really want to get cooking, then activate the 'ZOOM IN' feature and what do you know, a simple jab will turn into a ravaging lethal blow."

Does that help you understand a little better? I thought not...

Project Number 03 (P.N.03):
Tentative Release Date: Spring 2003

Now this game comes directly from the creator and producer of the Resident Evil series, Shinji Mikami. This title stars Vanessa Z. Schneider, a sexy babe equipped with a high-powered laser-gun (for those of you who like sexy girls n' guns). According to the story, Vanessa must eradicate a hoard of crazy robots at a colonial settlement on a nearby planet. Obviously, this title is a sci-fi action/shooting game, which may also involve strategies and puzzles. Of course, more info should be released on this title as we draw closer to its release.

Dead Phoenix:
Tentative Release Date: Summer 2003

Directed by Hiroki Kato, Dead Phoenix is an action/adventure game that gives players the feeling of "flying like a bird." The game is filled with beautiful environments and tons of on-screen enemies, which is why the polygon count seems slightly lower than other games. It's your job as a member of the Winged Clan of Phoenix to eliminate all these monsters who are invading your world.

Killer 7:
Tentative Release Date: Winter 2003

Directed by Gouichi Souda and produced by Shinji Mikami, Killer 7 stars Kun Lan, an assasin in a wheelchair who also happens to have seven different personalities (hence the name "Killer 7"). Each of his personalities will have different powers that must be used to move through the game and clean up the streets of America.
