News   Dragon's Lair 3D Delayed
- Posted By Lander Clinton, 09.20.2002

The GameCube version of Dragon's Lair 3D has been delayed until the first quarter of next year. It'll be out just in time to get clobbered by another cel-shaded cartoon game, Zelda, and give the publishers a reason not to put more games on the 'Cube! Yay! Why don't companies plan their release lists by what other companies are doing? Oh well, let's hope it's a success.

Anyway, we don't have a preview yet, but I'll say what I remember from E3. Dirk himself looked more cel-shaded than the rest of the game, but something else bothered me about this particular Dragon's Lair. I couldn't put my finger on it for a while, but when I gave it some thought I realized it was the camera angles. The cameras don't hide behind walls or anything, they very competently follow Dirk over his shoulder, and that's what I didn't like.

I put so much money into the arcade game of Dragon's Lair 2 that I'm used to seeing close-up shots of Dirk fighting dragons and witches, but in a fully 3D game these shots just wouldn't be plausible.

Thankfully, we all can get as close a shot as we want of Dirk (and Daphne!) with the new line of action figures which are already out. If you're a real geek, you can't take them out of the box, so have fun making their boxes fight each other!
