News   Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Return!
- Posted By Francis Bonnet, 09.10.2002

The Ninja Turtles are no stranger when it comes to video games. Konami released tons of Ninja Turtles console games during "Turtle Mania" of the late 80's and early 90's, many which remain some of my all-time favorite games. The last Ninja Turtles game that was released was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters, a fighting game very reminiscent of Street Fighter II, for the NES, SNES and Genesis.

Recently Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the Ninja Turtles, has been devoting his time to bringing the Ninja Turtles back from their hiatus. A new Ninja Turtles comic is already being published bi-monthly by Mirage Publishing. But Eastman also has a computer animated TV show and movie in the works. Although the movie is in "movie limbo" the T.V. series is scheduled to appear early next year on the Fox network. Konami has once again acquired the rights to the Ninja Turtles from Mirage Licensing and 4Kids Entertainment, and the new games will be based on the upcoming T.V. show.

"We're thrilled to partner with Konami to produce video games based on the all-new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series," said Gary Richardson, CEO of Mirage. "With Konami back as video game publisher and Playmates Toys continuing as master toy licensee, we're excited to be working with the team that helped Mirage create the original success of the franchise. We can't wait to see samples of the new Konami TMNT video game on the big screen at E3 in May of 2003."

Will the Turtles be able to pull off a successful return? Well, if He-Man, Thundercats, GI-JOE and Transformers can do it, what's stopping the Turtles? The new games are scheduled to release during the 2003 holiday season for Gamecube... oh, and those other two systems, PS2 and Xbox.
