News   Super Mario Sunshine Boosts Gamecube Sales
- Posted By Francis Bonnet, 09.05.2002

In what comes as not a big shocker, Super Mario Sunshine has boosted the sales of Gamecube. But what is a bit surprising is that it's boosted sales of Gamecube by 50 percent, with some reports stating that sales have even more than doubled. With over 350,000 Super Mario Sunshine games sold in only 10 days of release, Nintendo has been able to do what Xbox and even PS2 haven't been able to do - sell that many discs in such a short amount of time.

"This launch is historic - promising to break longstanding records," said Peter MacDougall, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Nintendo of America Inc. "So far, sales rates for Super Mario Sunshine are running 36 percent ahead of even Super Mario 64 six years ago - and that game went on to sell more than 10 million units worldwide."

My thoughts? This is just the beginning of something I've already predicted. Gamecube will be champion this holiday season as the big hits keep coming - Starfox Adventures, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 0, and Zelda in early 2003. If there's ever been a time to buy Gamecube, that time is now.
