Shinji Mikami disses Square & Sony

Shinji Mikami, producer of Resident Evil & Dino Crisis, has recently spoken out on a Japanese radio interview on how much he despises Sony for the inability to make a console that won't break after two years. He complained that the reason the Playstation 2 is selling so well is the fact that the console is so easy to break and that causes gamers to have to go out and purchase a second one. He said that he personally had to purchase two PSone's and two PS2's because the lenses wore out so quickly. When he tried playing Super Robot Taisen on PSone, it took a minute for the game to load up each battle. He then went on to criticize Sony for purposely making their consoles easy to break in order to increase sales by the gamers who are forced to buy another. He wonders why no customers are complaining about this!
As for Square, when Mikami was asked if he thought customers were foolish, he replied, "Yes". He believed that Square's recently released title, Kingdom Hearts (the PS2 RPG with Disney & Square cameos), was only selling well because of "aura purchase" -people only buy the game because their friends like it and not because they do. He went on to say that Kingdom Hearts should not have sold 780,000+ copies and is not worth the 6,800 yen that Sony is charging for it.
Mikami concluded the interview by saying, "Square please forgive me" because he was so angry that Kingdom Hearts sold much better than Biohazard (Resident Evil) did on Nintendo's Gamecube. He believes Biohazard is a much better game in terms of quality than Square's Kingdom Hearts.
My thoughts on this? Mikami is damn right about PSone because two of my friends each had to purchase another one or two systems because their original broke down after two or so years. As for his anger towards Square, I can't really make any comments because I have yet to play Kingdom Hearts and I can't yet pass judgement on that game. Perhaps he was just angry that a game featuring Donald Duck sold better than Resident Evil... then again, perhaps Kingdom Hearts really does suck.
