News   The Roots Of Mario: Super Mario 64

In just under a week, you, the gamer, will be able to go out and purchase the next and possibly greatest Mario title to ever grace a system. Yes, Super Mario Sunshine is coming August 26 and NGenres has to do something to celebrate such a momentous occasion.

Everyone knows who Mario is, but as time passes new gamers are not completely aware of how Mario came to be. This is a dedication to all games Mario. The plumber has appeared in over 30 games, sometimes as the lead character and sometimes as a cameo appearance. We’ll take you through Mario’s major games and show you how he became the most recognizable video game character ever.

Arcade:
- Donkey Kong - Our first title just happens to be Mario’s first title.
- Mario Bros. - Our hero gets a new name, occupation, and a brother.

NES/Famicom:
- Super Mario Bros. - The game that proved the greatness of Mario.
- The Lost Levels - The Mario sequel that wasn’t a sequel.
- Super Mario Bros. 2 - The vegetarian Super Mario Bros. sequel.
- Super Mario Bros. 3 - The best selling [NES] game ever.

Game Boy:
- Super Mario Land - Mario ‘s first portable adventure.

SNES/Super Famicom:
- Super Mario World - The product of competition and talent.
- Super Mario World 2 - It’s Yoshi’s turn in the 16-bit spotlight.
- Super Mario RPG - The first/last Square/Nintendo joint project.
