News   Rockman & Forte for Gameboy Advance
- Posted By Francis Bonnet, 07.12.2002

For those of you who’ve never heard of Rockman & Forte (known in the U.S. as Mega Man & Bass), that would be because it never saw the light of day in the U.S. market, it was released only in Japan for the Super Famicom (Super NES).

Word out of Japan is that Capcom is planning to remake Rockman & Forte for the Gameboy Advance. What does that mean for us? Hopefully it means that this quality Super Famicom title will finally be able to be enjoyed by gamers in the United States. Although there’s no word on a U.S. release, I’m confident that Capcom will make the right decision and release this title here, especially with the success of Gameboy Advance platform.

The Super Famicom version was originally released in 1998 when the Super NES was no longer profitable in the U.S. thanks to the 32/64-bit era. Capcom chose to keep the title only in Japan where the Super Famicom still had a modest userbase. Rockman & Forte actually followed the release of Mega Man 8 on Playstation and Sega Saturn. The game featured a mix of new bosses and a few old bosses from Mega Man 8. Following the title screen, Rockman & Forte allowed you to choose between Mega Man or his nemesis Bass, each having their own version of the story. Although Dr. Wily was featured in the game, he was not the main villain this time around. The main villain was actually a robot from space known as King. Many gamers often mistake this title for Mega Man 9. I’m hear to clarify that misconception because Rockman & Forte was a Mega Man side story, or at the most, Mega Man 8.5. To this date there has yet to be a release of a 9th game in the original Mega Man series.

As of now, Capcom plans to release Rockman & Forte on August 10th in Japan. Check here for updates on a state-side release.
