News   CryTek Studios Cuts Development
- Posted By Michael Loewer, 07.09.2002

The day before launch of NGenres.com back in May of 2001, I was responsible for writing the first headline story for the NAdventures genre. At the time, I was a lowly Associate Editor, and my then EIC gave me a link to a basically unknown company by the name of CryTek Studios, based in Germany.

CryTek was developing three games: X-Isle, Silent Space, and Engalus. My story covered primarily Engalus, the most Adventure filled of the three, and we were one of the first sites to discuss it. All three titles were highly ambitious, using completely customized graphics and engine software from CryTek studios. The games were supposed to be released multi-platform, at the time even including the Dreamcast.

Well, anyway, I decided just now to go take a look, as we've still heard basically nothing from CryTek in over a year. As it turns out, Silent Space and Engalus have been completely scrapped in order to aim all resources at X-Isle, now known as Far Cry. CryTek is still providing almost no information, no release expectations, etc., only that Far Cry (X-Isle) has been accepted by an unnamed publisher.

We look forward to hearing more information from this German developer. If they're busy creating a game, it means they don't have time to start another world war, which is always a concern with them crazy Krauts.

Editor-in-Chief Michael Loewer, out.
