News   Classic NES Games and Photoshops
- Posted By Michael Loewer, 06.04.2002

One of my favorite web hangouts is the news, humor, and message board haven that is Fark.com. Regulars such as myself would liken its effect on new visitors as similar to that of pure crack cocaine, as you'll hopefully discover soon. Web servers are regularly destroyed when Fark links to a hosted site, as a single Fark link will now nearly guarantee you several thousand unique hits within perhaps half an hour. In August of last year, NGenres was able to arrange a link on their main page for our raffle, and we pulled in 4500 extra uniques within a 2 hour period.

Anyway, every once in a while Fark will post a gaming related news item that I'll make note of here at NGenres. Today is one of those days, however, I'm taking the time to talk about Fark specifically because they took that news item to an extreme that I feel our readership will enjoy.

The news article sent readers to the NES Picture Database at AtariHQ.com. You should definitely check out the entire site, but this section is really, really cool because it contains hundreds upon hundreds of pictures of both NES software and hardware pieces. There's nothing like going back and seeing once again what BattleToads used to look like.

Photoshops, however, are also a strong Fark tradition. The readership was instructed to create NES game parodies using the pics on AtariHQ.com, and the results have been hilarious. Check out the NES Fark Photoshop for a retro laugh.
