As the 1st year US anniversary of the GBA's launch approaches, and as the Japanese anniversary creeps around the corner, the obvious success of Nintendo and the Game Boy Advance beams. It's almost as if Nintendo bought a black market money press...
To commemerate this wonderous occasion, Nintendo has gone forth with plans to release a Platinum themed GBA on June 3, 2002 at a suggested price of $79.99. Not a bad idea, eh?
In this small amount of time, the Game Boy Advance has sold 5 million units in the U.S. alone! Making up the bulk of the handheld video game industry with a staggering 1.7 billion sold, I thought the handheld market WAS Game Boy. With almost 200 games in the protable wonder's library, it can provide entertainment for any taste. Plus there's the included option of backwards compatablility with almost very other old-school Game Boy game ever made, bringing the total to about 1,000! Good strategy Nintendo, you deserve a pat on the back.
As stated by Peter McDougall, the VP of Sales and Marketing at N.O.A., he can't praise GBA enough...
"Game Boy Advance is portable, wireless and offers quick entertainment -exactly what people are looking for today. As a symbol of the Game Boy Advance rapid ascent to 5 million units sold, the platinum Game Boy Advance is sure to be a prized collector's item."
Way to go Nintendo!
