Editorials   Zelda Ad Campaign
- By Lander Clinton

Like many of you I have recently been inundated with advertisements for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. It seems like every channel, every billboard, and every bus is showing off Nintendo's latest masterpiece. Now comes word that Nintendo is planning on beaming Zelda promos directly into our heads, and later beaming away our money and putting the game right in our hands. This aggresive marketing is sure to make people aware of one of the greatest games they can possible play, and will give the GameCube new-found recognition from the general public. Yes, this is sarcasm.

Nintendo started off well with movie ads before Harry Potter last November. Then they stopped their movie theater promotion- a brilliant move since no one would remember it by March. Nintendo's free Zelda disc was another great move- but advertised almost exclusively to hardcore gamers in game stores who were already planning on buying Wind Waker. Okay, so Wind Waker has the highest number of pre-orders ever, outpacing GTA: Vice City, but it's not going to sell systems and it certainly could. I'm still seeing television ads for GTA. C'mon, Nintendo! Have some pride! You have the best games! Where is the fanfare? We shouldn't be able to escape seeing The Wind Waker right now.
