Editorials   Happy Birthday To My N64!
- By Lander Clinton

Six years ago today my brother called me from the mall to tell me they had Nintendo 64s, Super Mario 64s, and Pilotwing, um, some number- never owned it- in stock.

I didn't have enough for the N64 and Mario, just the system, but my brother loaned me the rest. I could barely believe it was true since I was expecting it two days later (that difference was paid back when I got my GameCube two days late), and was sure something would go wrong.

My brother brought me the system, I opened it, held the controller in all three positions, then proceeded to plug in the system. I turned to channel 4, turned it on, and nothing. The light was on (hey, that's a cool light!) but no image on the screen. That's when my brother put the TV on "video." How was I supposed to know? The NES and SNES just went on channel 4 (remind me to tell you about the time I first hooked up my Virtual Boy and had the plastic cover still on the game as I tried to put it in the system).

And so I turned the N64 on...
ba-ding! "It's-a me, Mario!"

and over the course of the last six years amassed 36 games- some great, some bad, most good, and celebrated today by... going to work? Crap! I have to go play my N64!

"82 in dog years was an estimate based on most systems lasting 5 years and this one being 6, making it old."
