Editorials   I Have A Dream...
- By Lander Clinton

Perusing the arcade the other day I remembered my old idea for the arcade of the future- one that makes money (rim shot! I said "shot," Mrs. Cartman...). The arcade of the future would allow the games to spill over into their neighbors!

What would be really great is if it could work across company lines, but say Namco, for instance, which makes a lot of different types of arcade games, made a zapper that someone could rent and walk around the arcade, shooting at different games. You could help out fellow shooters, of course, or shoot the tires on another car in a racing game. Shoot one of the characters in a fighting game, or shoot some puzzle pieces blocking someone's way to the high score.

You don't have to play nice, either. Feel free to shoot down the car the player is driving, just don't complain when they realize their "shotgun" rider is a traiter and they pop you one upside the glavin.

It doesn't need to end with shooting, though. Rent (for a time or number of uses) a Tetris-shaped remote control and drop pieces in the middle of Cruisin' Whatever to mess up the driver (who's already messed-up for playing a Cruisin' game), or drop them into Area 51 and if they're shot you and the player get bonuses.

Each genre should have its own remote to change the other games in the arcade. Get a few remotes going at once on the same game to unlock extras, or just a good laugh when Ryu drops into the middle of the race track...

With Nintendo, Sega, and Namco going ahead with the Triforce games, what better way to commemorate such a coming-together than with a genre-melding arcade?

The only problem is the end of NGenres...
