Nintendo Games Which Were Never Released
- By Francis

Introduction:
Many times companies spend tons of money developing games only to decide later that they shouldn’t release them. I’m sure you’ve heard of a few of them. The original Resident Evil 2 was scrapped because Capcom didn't like the way it was turning out and instead developed an entirely new one – the one we all know and love today. Remember the Dreamcast 3D Castlevania? Konami also canned that game; perhaps because they didn’t like the way the development was going, perhaps for other reasons. However, my secret sources have been able to uncover a few games that were almost released for Nintendo systems, games that for some reason or another were cancelled only days before they were to be unveiled... and games that not even some head Nintendo executives know about! I present you with a list and box art of six games that never saw the light of day.
Name: Pong RPG: Legend of the Dark Castle
System: Nintendo 64
Original Release Date: June 2000
Since a lot of classic games have been coming out with updates recently, Atari Games had thought why not try a different genre with the first video game ever created? So they developed an RPG game of Pong. This time you learn the history of the two white bars and how the mystical square ball was created. Pong RPG originally promised 12,000 hours of RPG gameplay, but Atari realized later that the average gamer would probably never reach the end so two days before it was released, they cancelled it and started development on a new system, Jaguar 2.
Name: Friday the 13th Again
System: NES
Original Release Date: April 1993
Remember the awesome Friday the 13th NES game released by LJN way back in the 1980’s? Well they originally had planned to release a sequel called Friday the 13th: Again. The game was to totally change the series and instead of regular Jason killing kids, it boasted a Super-Uber Spaceman Jason who could fly down from a space ship and start killing the kids at Crystal Lake with laser beams. However, the game turned out to have such a great story line, New Line Cinema asked LJN not to release the game so they could use the story in a new Jason movie, which was recently released in theaters (Jason X, anyone?). Rumor has it that New Line may still plan to release this game to cash in on the popularity of Jason X.
Name: War Gods Mytholgies: Kabuki Jo
System: Nintendo 64
Original Release Date: November, 1999
I’m sure most of you remember the awesome fighting game that was War Gods which was actually released for all major consoles during the 32 & 64-bit war. However, what you may not know is that Midway was planning a spin-off series starring Kabuki Jo. Much like the amazing Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero, the Kabuki Jo game would have been more of an action game with story elements, digging deep into the origin of Kabuki Jo and revealing how he came down the path of evil after being rejected from a Ronald McDonald audition. Know one knows why Midway never released this game, but rumor has it that they may be updating it for Gamecube.
Name: The Legend of Zelda: Will You Be My Friend?
System: Gamecube
Original Release Date: November, 2001
Bet you never knew about this Zelda game, which was to be a surprise launch game for the Nintendo Gamecube. According to a Nintendo representative, who did not wish to reveal his identity, The Legend of Zelda: Will You Be My Friend was supposed to be a sequel to the acclaimed Full Motion Video game originally released for the Philips CDI system in 1993. Will You Be My Friend was to focus mainly on Link and his quest to discover himself; who he was and why he sometimes has special feelings he can’t control. Zelda was to have a small part in the game since there wasn’t much use for her in the story line anyway. This game was very secret and Nintendo opted not to release it and instead focus their energies on Cell-Da, the cell-shaded Zelda coming out for Gamecube in February, 2003.
Name: Super Orgy Bros.
System: Nintendo 64
Original Release Date: November, 2001
Following the success of Conker’s Bad Fur Day, on N64, Nintendo thought it might be a good idea to take villains from the Mario games and put them in an adult-oriented game. Bowser, Wario, and Tatanga (from the original Mario Land on Gameboy) all join in an orgy of fun, whereas Wart (from Super Mario Bros. 2) would only appear in their sexual dreams. The game would have special cameos by famous Nintendo characters like Princess Peach and Yoshi, all with the desire to join in orgy-fun during specific theme-oriented levels. Supposedly, the recently retired Nintendo president, Hiroshi Yamauchi, decided that this game shouldn’t be released to the public. Rumor has it that he wanted the game exclusively for himself and his own “personal use”.
Name: All Red
System: Virtual Boy 64
Original Release Date: August 1997
After the original Virtual Boy bombed, Nintendo thought that they should release a new system fixing the problems which plagued the original Virtual Boy. Development began on a powerful 64-bit Virtual Boy that could display more than just 4 shades of red on a black background, this time it could display 64 shades of beautiful red! There was only one launch game planned, All Red, which was a game which would take place in a red world with red characters and red adventures. However, Nintendo realized two weeks before the system was to be released that they only had one game for it and no other companies, including Nintendo, had anything else in the works. According to rumor, Nintendo is waiting until they have more than just one game for the system to release it. Some say that the Nintendo Men In Black (a secret organization of Nintendo agents) have been showing up at developers homes late at night using Virtual Boy technology to take control of their minds in order to force them to make games. Some even say that Square has been thinking to make the Final Fantasy series exclusive to Virtal Boy 64.
In Conclusion:
Obviously, this story is a joke so don’t take anything that I’ve written seriously because NONE of it is true, it's just my sorry attempt at humor. Hope you at least enjoyed the box art!
