Editorials   Too Many Games!!!
- By Lander Clinton

What gives? Barely anything all summer and now we are to be inundated with great game after great game!

I haven't even done all I wanted to do in Pikmin 2 yet, and now I have Paper Mario and San Andreas (PS2) to play. By the end November, Metroid Prime 2, Mario Power Tennis, Baten Kaitos, Prince of Persia 2, GoldenEye 2, and Viewtiful Joe 2 will all be out.

Don't forget about the DS, either. I already have Super Mario 64 DS reserved and am very interested in Spider-Man 2. There are also a number of PS2 games I'd want if I had the time and money (which are going to the GameCube games).

When will publishers learn that a great game will sell at any time of year, especially if no other great game is out at the time? This reminds me of late 2001, when Paramount announced that the date the next Star Trek movie would come out would be December 2002. I said at that time it would be crushed by Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, but to make matters worse, when it came out it was actually beaten by the J. Lo. epic, "Maid in Manhattan." I remember when Swim Fan was number one in America because it came out in February, a time when no other movies are out. Sure, it was number one with only 12 million dollars, but they could still advertise having the top spot, and I'm sure it would have made less competing against J. Lo's Oscar tear-jerker.

Not only will all these games cut into each other's sales, but also my available time to play them all. Thank goodness for January, when no big GameCube games will come out and I can catch up.... what? Resident Evil 4 and Mortal Kombat? Curse you younger Lander! Why did you have to get hooked on videogames?!!
