By now you may have heard about Nintendo's next portable system, the Dual Screen. It will have two screens for game action and the possibilities are very intriguing- but that's me, a videogame fan.

For months now Nintendo's been talking up games with universal appeal, about how graphics won't be progressing that much farther and we need new ways of playing games. Well, two screens is certainly a new way to play games, but I don't think the mainstream will get it. This one already sounds like it's strictly for the videogame crowd and won't produce any new players since they'll see it and be confused. "What gives, do I control both screens? Uh, I'll stick with my GameBoy."

Recently Nintendo President Iwata said he didn't expect everyone to love it right away but he hoped word-of-mouth would spread. That gives me confidence that Nintendo already has some really cool games lined up for it DESPITE the strange set-up, not complimentary to it.

It should be noted that Nintendo's pre-GameBoy Game and Watch series used two screens. I have the Game and Watch Zelda game where you do a dungeon on one screen and the boss on the other. This was just because of the limitations of using liquid crystals. It was never really used to add anything that one screen couldn't have done.

It should also be noted that a Mario and Luigi: Superstar Sequel where you play each brother on a different screen would get me buying this system right away.
