Editorials   New Cube Owners, Vol. 18
- By Lander Clinton

I thought I'd do something a little different tonight. I'll assume that you've all run out and bought every game I recommended and are now swamped with great games to play, but I don't want you to lose perspective. A wise man once asked: Why play one system's games when you can play two?

For $50 extra, the GameCube can play about 1500 more games. The GameCube-Game Boy Player is just like a regular GBA, only it's shaped like a square, and it has no screen, and it takes no batteries, and it's not portable, and it would be awkward to play a few of the GBA games on it. Other than that it's just another GBA.

Really though, for anyone who wants to play Game Boy games but doesn't like the confines of a portable system (huh?), a GB Player will fit perfectly with your GameCube. Maybe you don't like squinting at the tiny screen, or maybe you want a lighted screen and don't want to pay $100 for a GBA SP, or perhaps you wish you could add decorative borders around the games. Whatever the reason, there are too many great GBA games out there for you to not be playing them.

Off the top of my head- Mario and Luigi, Golden Sun 1 and 2, Advance Wars 1 and 2, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, the GBA Castlevanias, the GB Legend of Zelda games, the GB Mario remakes, Super Mario Kart: Super Circuit, and many others stand on their own as great games, not just great GB games.

The only games you should avoid for the Player are the freak ones, like Kirby's Tilt 'n Tumble (unless you want to shake your Cube around as you play), Boktai (unless you have a full-spectrum light to shine on your Cube), or any game with force-feedback (unless you take out the extra battery). The GB Player also doesn't have an infrared sensor since it was never used in most Game Boy Color games. You probably don't own a game with that feature and if you do you never used it.

Picking up the GB Player is a seriously good idea. If you want to say it was your idea I won't take credit for it, just go get it!
