New Cube Owners, Vol. 16
- By Lander

Since Nintendo recently sold in one weekend roughly the same number of GameCubes it sold at launch, I thought I'd do a little something for all the new Cube owners out there.
Everyday until I run out of ideas, forget, or am too busy playing a game, I'll update a GameCube game you must own and why you must own it.
Here goes:
I considered doing Mary Kate and Ashley Sweet 16 since this is the 16th one, but when I realized I'd done more of these then there'd been seasons of The Simpsons, I knew which game I had to do. The Simpsons: Hit and Run is the funniest game you can get for GameCube, and the best Simpsons game ever.
The game plays like Grand Theft Auto 3, which is a perfect way to showcase the vast town of Springfield. Get in any car you see, including many specific cars from the show, or run on foot to uncover a mysterious plot.
Hit and Run has 7 levels, with 3 level types between them. For example, you play in Evergreen Terrace to the Power Plant with in levels 1, 4, and 7, downtown Springfield with Moe's bar and the monorail in levels 2 and 5, and Squidport tourist area with the observatory and A LOT from one specific episode in levels 3 and 6. Each level is huge, so you won't feel ripped off for playing the same areas again. It's more like they could have had one game in one huge Springfield, but decided to break up the action so you don't get bored of seeing the same locales like in GTA.
The main point of the Simpsons is to make you laugh and in that regard Hit and Run is a complete success. Some of the repeated lines (like when you crash into something) get repetitive (I'm glad I clarified that repeated things are repetitive), but that's also another plus for sectioning off the town and providing a different character for each level- you won't get tired of hearing the same lines over and over.
The only thing that is annoyingly repetitive are the missions. Just about every single one is race against another car, destroy another car while racing it, or race against the clock and collect items- in your car. Hit and Run says it's a driving-based mission game and that's what you're going to get. The very first mission is to drive to the Kwik-E-Mart and buy some ice cream and soda. There should have been more banal chores like this to make it fit into the world of Springfield. I would have liked a mission where you join an angry Springfield mob and destroy something valuable.
You will do a lot of destroying in the game, so don't fret. The Simpsons: Hit and Run is not perfect but any fan of the show will have fun with it. If that's you, go get it!
